At 16 Arden Street in the south of Edinburgh there is a metal plaque in memory of the General which is inscribed: GENERAL STANIS£AW MACZEK COMMANDER OF THE 1ST POLISH ARMOURED DIVISION IN WORLD WAR TWO LIVED IN THIS HOUSE 1948 - 1994
In a ceremony on December 11th 1997, on the third anniversary of the General's death and in the presence of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland, Mr Leszek Wieciech, former soldiers of the 1st Polish Armoured Division, members of the Polish community, with theCity of Edinburgh represented by The Lord Provost of Edinburgh the plaque was unveiled by the General's son - Dr Andrzej Maczek.

Career - World War Two - a brief review
The General was born near Lwow in 1882. He was commander of the
1st Polish Armoured Division from February 1942 until May 1945. He
became GOC 1st Polish Corps in Scotland and later GOC Polish
Forces in Great Britain.
